How are the busyness predictions calculated?

Each car park has a model that estimates how full it tends to be hour by hour, based on its type (town centre, retail park, hospital, station, and so on) and its capacity. The page shows the prediction for the current hour alongside a weekly heatmap.

Are these predictions live, or estimates?

They are modelled estimates of typical busyness, not live sensor feeds. They are useful for planning when to visit and which alternative to try, but actual occupancy on any given day can differ.

Where does the underlying car park data come from?

The list of car parks, their locations and capacities comes from OpenStreetMap contributors. Coverage and accuracy depend on what the OSM community has mapped for each area.

How often is the coverage updated?

We refresh the data on a roughly weekly cadence, picking up newly mapped car parks and changes to existing ones.
